Many years ago I had the great fortune or meeting Fred Haise.
Now for those who don’t know who Fred Haise is I recommend you go do some immediate research. This man is LEGEND.
Not only because I met him, cough cough, but because he now spends his retirement days travelling the WORLD to educate children on space travel.
I was working at the time as a Business Manager for a primary school in Sheffield, England and for science week, the teacher just so happened to book this wonderful man.
Fred sat and told a whole school of children about his time on Apollo 13 and then patiently answered their questions which ranged from, ‘Did you see aliens?’ To ‘Why was your spaceship so broken?’.
I’m not sure if I’ve blogged about this previously I was scrolling my photos this morning and saw myself, Mr Haise and my colleague Jackie and was reminded of such a lovely thing and time.
His courage and that of his colleagues should be an inspiration to us all to keep exploring and expanding our horizons and the be brave in facing our own fears and the dangers which surround us every day.
