Or so they thought
He stood there looking so festive in his bright red coat
A little bag over his 2ft shoulder
His beard all stringy from little fingers
His hands solid and posed as though holding the gift glued in place
But his eyes told a different story
Because they looked so sad behind those little lens less glasses
When the house was quiet and his joints softened
He looked at the Christmas tree and nutcrackers willing them to talk like he
All alone in the dark he knew he brought joy to others hearts and yet his was empty
No friends to talk to, no other Santas to play
He would escape
He used the magical key they left out for the big man and set about the streets
Looking in windows for others like him
They all gathered in the park
A mini Christmas Santa display!
They sang and laughed and switched their pre wrapped gifts
As the night ended they all ventured back to their homes
Promising to meet each year from now on.
