When I was in my twenties, I stopped taking birth control, my partner and I were trying to get pregnant.

The years went by and hospital visits came and went, I tried fertility treatment and I had investigative surgery. It all took a huge toll on our relationship.

After my surgery I was told that I wasn’t ovulating even with the fertility treatment and my tubes were blocked, I had scar tissue and other issues which all occurred naturally. My only option was IVF with donor eggs or adoption.

I decided to not pursue those choices but to make peace with myself and my body and enjoy life.

Around a year later, a colleague at work who had no decorum, asked if I had stopped going to the gym as I looked a bit round. I looked down and yes I did look a little swollen. I put it down to something I’d eaten. Then I started feeling sick. I went to buy a test and as soon as I got home I did it.

The test was positive! Because I had pains I went to the hospital for a check up and they found a sac but no heartbeat, and it was just inside my tube still. They wanted to operate but gave me the option to wait a week with it being early to see if things changed. My pregnancy test at the hospital was negative. I decided to take the week. Mostly because I was terrified of hospitals.

My mum came with me a week later and not only was the little sac where it should be, there was a heart beat! And my test was again positive.

From this followed many check ups. And in the December after a very traumatic birth, I delivered a perfect and healthy baby girl. This baby, my baby is my most precious gift.
